There are hunting regulations that you must observe when hunting in Alabama. Here are five things that you should never forget when hunting with a
crossbow in the state of Alabama:
- Obtain the necessary permit for hunting and for the weapon
Any hunter should acquire a Harvest Information Program (HIP) permit before going out on a hunt. This list includes species that can be hunted during the hunting season. Bring a proof of certification with you while hunting.
- Observe allowed measurements
Federal Law only allows for the use of
crossbow for turkey and deer that has a 35 pound draw weight. Draw must be at 90 percent let off only. The arrows that will be used for the hunt must have a sharpened broad heads and should be 20-inches long or more. It should at least bear the 100 grains as minimum weight.
- Special bows not allowed
This pertains to bows with sights that have computational capabilities or magnification.
- Observe right of way
This is the prevention of using a
crossbow within 50 yards away from a public road, railroad or highway to avoid accidents. Even if you shot a game within this distance, you cannot legally harvest it unless you want your weapon to be confiscated.
- Know where to hunt
It is illegal to do any hunting activity within an area that you have not sought any permission to do so. If you are going to use your bow in hunting game over a land, you must seek permission from the owner. Also take note of the hunting grounds where you can legally hunt with your arrows and bow.
Crossbow hunting in Alabama is perfectly legal so long as you get the permit to do it. Follow the guideline and the measurements required for a legal bow and you will be alright.
