Part Two
We will follow up our previous discussion on
arrow vanes and fletching by discussing the question that every hunter gets at one point or another; should I use plastic vanes or feather fletching? The fletching helps balance the arrow throughout its flight so making the choice of whether to go with the plastic version or the more natural counterpart will make a difference. You can find fletching and vanes
in many different materials, as well as different variations of these materials. For the purposes of this discussion, we will just be comparing the plastic and the feather versions.
Feathers have been a main choice for fletching since the arrow was invented. If something has withstood the test of time (especially in this industry) then there must be something that makes it so special. The main reason that they have maintained their popularity is because they are so naturally light. When we talk about arrows, the lighter your arrow is the faster that it will fly. If the arrow is on the lighter side, then it will also maintain its trajectory better than a heavier arrow. They do tend to be more on the expensive side and they are not good during inclement weather.
Vanes are the plastic version of the fletching. They are typically heavier than feather fletching and they typically cost less than the previous option. They are a great option for the hunter because they are easy to set up and are very durable. These plastic vanes will generally withstand the everyday wear and tear better than their feathered counterparts will. This is great because if you happen to brush a tree with the vane their will not be a need to head out and have to replace the
vanes. This plastic version will also be the best option if you are looking for an all-weather vane.
