Bow hunting season is just around the corner! I know that many of you have been waiting patiently for the season to begin. Now that the season is getting closer, have you made sure to start a practicing regiment? Has all your gear been check out?
"If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail."
"If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail." This quote fits in perfectly with the mindset that you need to be in if you plan on using your compound bow to get a double lung shot on a buck this bow hunting season.
The first thing that you must do (even before you practice) is make sure that you rig is in tip top shape. Checking your
compound bow before the season will not only make your trip much safer, but it will also increase your chances of success.
What should I check on my Compound Bow?
There are a few questions that you should ask yourself:
- Do you need a new string, or does the string need to be waxed?
- If you are shooting a compound bow; are your cables good to go? How is your cam timing?
- Is there any damage to the cams? Have you inspected them for rust?
- Is there anything wrong with the limbs, such as cracks?
- Are all of your accessories in working order? Substantial force is transferred through every shot, so they may be a little loose.
If you do not feel comfortable looking at the bow yourself, then make sure that you take it to a local archery bow shop. Any reputable bow shop should be able to help you out. If you make sure to check your setup, you can save yourself a bad headache. There are many
benefits to shooting a compound bow, but you have to make sure that your compound bow is tuned. You will need some time before the season hits to get re-accustomed to your compound bow, so make sure you check it soon.
