Hunting Decoy – An Old-fashioned Method That Still Works Today

The use of a hunting decoy or two in hunting is a practice that many generations of hunters has used when hunting waterfowl.  If you know the right way of using your decoys, you can greatly increase the chances of bagging a lot of birds in a single outing. But what are these decoys and how do your use them effectively? In the past, decoys were made of light wood so that they can float in the water. These antiques are hand carved and painted; they often look more like works of art rather than hunting implements. Today's decoys are a lot more life-like and behave just like real waterfowl do in the water. Modern decoys are usually made of high-grade plastic and the artwork is printed on the surface instead of painted on to make them last longer. Decoys also come in a wide range of designs from the traditional duck decoys, geese, and even turkey and grouse. Chances are, whatever kind of game bird you plan on hunting, there will be a decoy that will perfectly suit your needs. You need to learn how the birds group themselves in the wild and try to mimic that as much as possible. Birds are actually very intelligent, if they sense that there is something amiss with their surroundings, they will try their best to escape. Even though modern technology has drastically changed the way people hunted wild animals, there are still a couple of old methods that are so effective that they could not be replaced.
