The Wonder of Trail Cameras

hunting trail camera If you do not have the time to sit in a tree stand (as most of us do not) then I would recommend that you invest in a trail camera. They can save you a lot of wasted time looking in places that ultimately will not have any activity. They can also help you out when you are scouting so that you can choose the buck that you want to go after. Scouting is an vindictively fun activity that people who hunt, really enjoy. It takes practice to figure out what you are doing, but once you get it, you are hooked.

Depending on the specific trail camera that you get, you may have various data gathering options that are available to you. Some feature the time lapse setting that allows you to cover a wide area during long periods. This setting is good when you are trying to get a feel for how your target animal is moving. Some of the cameras also come with a photo feature that is movement sensitive. These are great if you set up a food plot in front of them so you can get a picture perfect shot of your animal. Trail cameras have different specifics for taking photos and not all cameras come with a time-lapse feature.

I believe that using these cameras is a process, and must be done carefully in order to hone in on your desired animal. What I would recommend is that you set up your cameras to take photos in the off-season by places where you know the animals will be feeding. Analyze the footage until you see the animal that you want to target. Then when it gets closer to hunting season you should use the time lapse setting to try to find the same animal that you previously chose. Take note of the animal’s movement and then use the regular setting to set your sights on the animal. As long as you are a good shooter, I can almost guarantee that you will end up with your kill before the season is over with the use of trail cameras.
