These 3 trail cams offer different advantages for pre-season scouting your deer.
Scouting deer using trail cameras is not a new innovation by any means. Just Google the phrase and you'll get over 2 million hits. Since the
early 1980's trail cams have began their infusion into the hunting world. Over the past 30 years those cameras have undergone a huge transformation. That transformation has been reflected in the way hunters prepare for the season. Today, it's nothing for a serious hunter to run dozens of trail cams across a number of properties. Not only do cameras offer a glimpse into what bucks you can expect to see, but they are vital for many deer management chores.
If you are new to the world of hunting, looking to buy your first trail cam, or just browsing to see what models are available, you might be having a hard time finding a good fit. There are countless models available today, and it might be hard to choose from. All cameras come with different features, concepts, and price ranges. Here are 3 different trail cams available today that might fit your needs.
Primos Truth X Camera

The Primos Truth X[/caption]
One camera that might be a good fit if you have some expendable cash is the Primos Truth X Camera.
This camera has some great features that make is ideal for serious hunters. For starters, this trail cam has the capability of reaching 65 feet through the darkness of night to snap pictures of animals. This camera can also come out of sleep mode to snap a picture in less than a second. This should improve your odds of catching a glimpse a passing deer.
Many hunters will also appreciate the 2.5 inch color screen. Not only can this screen allow you to check your photos, but it gives you a preview image so you know what the frame of the picture will be. You can also set the camera to take bursts of 1,3,5,7 or 9 photos at a time. Finally, the camera comes with password protection, in case you have having trouble with thieves visiting your scouting locations.

Another trail cam that is great for early season scouting is the Primos Truth 60 camera. The same company cranks out the Truth and the Truth X, so many of the features are the same.
This model is for folks who maybe don't have quite the cash reserves to pounce on the Truth X. That being said, it has many attributes that make it a great camera.
First off this Primos trail cam can snap photos out to 60 feet in the dead of night. Not quite as far as the Truth X, but still not too shabby. Also, it will respond to movement within 1.5 seconds when in sleep mode to take a picture. Another aspect of the Primos Truth less tech-savvy hunters may like is the simplicity of the setup. Out of the box it comes with optimal settings. All you'll need to do is find the tree, turn it on, and strap it to a tree.
Primos DPS
The final trail cam for your pre-season scouting forays is the Primos DPS, or Deer Positioning System.
As the most affordable model on the list, it doesn't have many of the same features of the two previous models. Even still, is might be just what you are looking for in a trail camera.

Rather than taking the motion trigged approach to scouting, the Primos DPS takes photos regularly at 5 or 10 second intervals. Although you'll wind up with a boatload of pictures within 24 hours, you can scroll through them all within 3 minutes. This ensures you won't miss any of the action, but you will have the chore of sorting through the images. Other than that, this camera is about as simple as it gets. It comes with the software you will need to install on your computer so you'll be browsing all those photos in no time.
Whichever of these 3 trail cams best suits your needs isn't the point. All of them will allow you to better understand what is happening with the deer in your area, and do so in a very passive way. Trail cams aren't going anywhere in the near future. More and more hunters are getting on board and using cameras to do their scouting. Each of the mentioned cameras is unique, and each has their own pros and cons. All of them have the major advantage of helping your reach your hunting goals this fall.
